Best free tools for Twitter

Twitter provides an excellent platform to bloggers to promote their blogs. Because of its popularity several third-party tools and services were created to help Twitter users. Following is a list of the tools and services that I think make Twitter lot more easier and fun to use.

Quotably

If you find Twitter conversations hard to follow Quotably is the service for you. Quotably reformats Twitter messages into a easy-to-follow threaded conversation. The service itself is quite easy to use. Just go to Qutoably.com and enter the Twitter ID and the service will give you threaded conversations the person is involved in. You don’t have to sign up with Quotably to use their service. If you like you can even post a reply on Twitter from Quotably. Another good feature is that you can view a RSS feed for any Twitter user by simply appending ‘.rss’ to the end of the Quotably URL for example www.quotably.com/zparacha.rss.

Tweet Scan

Tweet Scan is a real-time search engine for Twitter. Tweet Scan lets you search text in Twitter posts. You can use this service to find out the opinions of other people on a particular issue.

Ping.fm

If you participate in more than one social media networks then you might want to give Ping.fm a try. This service allows you to post to a bunch of popular social media networks from one single page. You just need to log on to Ping.fm and from there you can post your messages to Twitter, Jaikum Tumblr, Facebook and Pownce.

TwitterFox is a Firefox add-on which alerts you when your friends post a new tweet. With this extension you can stay up-to-date with your friends’ Tweeter posts without visiting Tweeter website.

TwitterLocal

Looking for Twitter users in your area? TwitterLocal can help you in your quest. You can use this service either by submitting a form on their website or by downloading the application.

TwitterLocal lets you generate an RSS or XML Feed to filter out Tweets around a certain area. Just enter a city, state, postal code, choose the range of miles you want to include, and hit the button. You’ll instantly get URLs to add to your RSS reader.

Twobile

Twobile is a Twitter client for Windows Mobile devices that allows you to update your status, view the public timeline, your friends timeline, send and receive replies and direct messages, view featured users and favorites.

tinytwitter is another mobile application to post to tweeter from your mobile device.

Twitterbar

Twitterbar is another Firefox extension that allows you to post to twitter from the FireFox. Options for the extension include safe/secure mode, open twitter in new tab after posting and the ability to change the URL tweet ‘Currently browsing’ text.
